What Is an MS Hollow Section?

A mild steel hollow section is a structural steel tube with an empty core, made in square, rectangular, or circular cross sections. Compared to a solid steel bar, a hollow section gives you more strength for less weight, which is why it's become the go to choice for columns, trusses, frames, railings, and other load bearing structures in construction, architecture, and engineering.

You'll come across a few different names for the same products, depending on who you ask: Square Hollow Section (SHS), also called square tube, square pipe, or MS square pipe; Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS), also called rectangular tube or rectangular steel pipe; Circular Hollow Section (CHS), also called round pipe, ERW pipe, or MS pipe.
